Going through the hills
on a night all starry
On the way to Bethlehem
Far away I heard a shepherd boy piping
On the way to Bethlehem
Angels in the sky
brought this message nigh:
brought this message nigh:
"Dance and sing for joy
that Christ the newborn King
Is come to bring us peace on earth
And He's lying cradled there at Bethlehem."
"Tell me, shepherd boy
piping tunes so merrily
piping tunes so merrily
On the way to Bethlehem
Who will hear your tunes
on these hills so lonely
On the way to Bethlehem?
Angels in the sky
brought this message nigh:
brought this message nigh:
"Dance and sing for the joy
that Christ the newborn King
Is come to bring peace on earth
And He's lying cradled there at Bethlehem."
"None may hear my pipes
on these hills so lonely
On the way to Bethlehem;
But a King will hear me
play sweet lullabies
play sweet lullabies
When I get to Bethlehem."
Angels in the sky
came down from on high
came down from on high
Hovered over the manger
where the babe was lying
Cradled in the arms of his mother Mary
Sleeping now at Bethlehem
"Where is the new King,
shepherd boy piping merrily
Is He there at Bethlehem?"
"I will find Him soon
by the star shining brightly
In the sky o'vr Bethlehem."
Angels in the sky
brought this message nigh:
brought this message nigh:
"Dance and sing for joy
that Christ the king of Kings
Is come to bring us peace on earth
And He's lying cradled there at Bethlehem."
"May I come with you,
shepherd boy piping merrily
Come with you to Bethlehem?
Pay my homage too
at the new King's cradle
at the new King's cradle
Is it far to Bethlehem?"
Angels in the sky
brought this message nigh:
brought this message nigh:
"Dance and sing for joy
that Christ the newborn King
Is born in the stable yonder,
Merry Christmas Franco.

Macao? Who knew? Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteA pleasant surprise discovered while I was searching for the youTube performance I wanted to resent here.
DeleteIf Chinese people an sing and play distinctly ENGLISH Christian Music with such accuracy, joy and enthusiasm I figure it good Omen for the ultimate fate of this troubled wold.
M_E_R_R_Y ... C_H_R_I_S_T_M_A_S_! yourself, Joe!
<);^}> HO HO HO!
Franco,
DeleteNote the red dresses these women in the choir are wearing! A special meaning in Chinese culture -- in part, joy. And often the color of a Chinese wedding dress.
It is Chinese tradition for the bride to wear a red dress, called a qipao and to cover her face with a red veil on the wedding day. In Chinese culture, red symbolizes happiness, prosperity and good luck. [source]

ReplyDeleteI'm not religious but
ReplyDeleteRegardless whether one is religious, not religious, or just confused about the whole ordeal, there is much good that can come from this time. First, there is family, and most attitudes soften, and people have closer ties during this season. Friends are friendlier, non-friends are also friendlier, and complete strangers smile more often. This is something to hold on to, especially in this unprecedented time of division.
This is also the most special time for small children, and the joy in their faces is enough to melt the heart of any man. This attitude should be remembered, and should be cherished. If only it could last forever, the world would be a better place.
But the unfortunate thing about this is that one day after new years day, the Liberals, and Progressives will still be the Rotten bunch of hateful asshole that they were last week.
But until then, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa
One of my personal favorites!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is often offered by the Choral Arts Society of Washington -- at the Kennedy Center. All who hear this piece can't help but be filled with joy.
Merry Christmas, Franco!
I've loved it too –– since the very first time I heard it years ago.
DeleteJohn Rutter is the first to make a significant contributin to Christian Church Music in a long time.
Bright, Merry, and sweetly Reverent all at once. Quite an accomplishment.
