~ FreeThinke

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

  1. I'm pretty much all-consumed with cleaning out This Old House, but want to take a moment right now to wish you a Merry Christmas, Franco, and to thank you for all your poetry. I have a particular soft spot for Christmas poetry!

    1. Thank you, AOW. I feel the same. While many think of Christmas as "Something We've Got to Get Through Somehow, –– even thugh it takes too much time away from making money, doing necessary routine chores, and producing essential goods and services,"

I've always thought of it as "The Pause That Refreshes" –– Christmas gives life a clearer meaning, provides inspiration and incentive to carry on with renewed energy, strengthened commitment, deper affection, and a lighter heart.

This becomes true because we've taken Time Out to share a sense of Wonder and Delight, show each other a measure of Generosity that feeds the Soul, and create Memories to help sustain us in the future when inevitable crises and challenges arise.

When Christ is born anew each year in our hearts we are moved to get in touch with our "Better Angels" and remind each other what all the striving, hard work, desperate struggling, and occasional flashes of encouraging brilliance that help us triumph over adversity are really FOR.

Life without recognitiion of God's Love and our own inner need to express Charity would be devoid of Beauty, Meaning, Hope and Joy.

So all our duties and obligations become less onerous, less tiring, and at times even delightful and thrilling. Or so it has bben for me, –– admittedly a Child of considerable Privilege.

      "His Yoke is easy
      And His Burthen is light."

    2. Yes indeed, and I echo AOW's compliments on your poetry. Advent is a time to prepare ourselves to welcome Jesus into our hearts.

    3. Thank you. Silver. The older I get every time I look back I realize more and more that I could never have survived without my increasing awareness of God's Presence and willingness to help guide me over the rough spots.

      MERRY CHRISTMAS!
