I thought "Tony Mottola" too, Kid, bu the great jazz harmonies in the lush accompaniment really speak to me too, and it's almost a MIRACLE that an aged singer like Tony Bennett who must have recorded this when he was close to 80 years of age, could mesh so well with a much younger, very different KIND of singer like Sting, who happens to be one of the very few so-called "Rock Stars" I respect and admire, because he's brlliant, highly versatle, and greatly appreciates and understands the tremendous importance of classical music.
If you've never experienced Sting's narration of Prkofieff's Peter and the Wolf with Claudio Abbado and clever Puppetry combined, look it up. I think you'd love it.
Abbado by the way was my favorite orchestral condutor for many years, until he died too soon after his eightieth birthday just a few years ago.
Abbado and Sting made a great team just as Sting does in his unliely pairing with Tony Bennett.
I love it whem performers break the mold, or step puside the box –– however you want to put it –– but only when they do it with the great taste and understanding of musical values we hear in ths version of Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
Can yu guess why I chose to feature Boulevard of Broken Dreams just after the Mueller Hearings?
By the time one reaches a certain age everyone will have taken a cruise down the boulevard of broken dreams. Best not to stay there though. Decent song but I'm not a fan of either Sting or Tony Bennett. Sting has sung some creepy songs and Bennett might be better to just hang it up and call it a career instead of trying to be relevant today.
If A. G. Barr has dusted off the death penalty for certain crimes then maybe there will be something relevant happening on the pedo front and and we will finally see some swamp creatures being brought to justice.
Said the night wind to the little lamb: "Do you see what I see? Way up in the sky, little lamb Do you see what I see? A star, a star, dancing in the night With a tail as big as a kite With a tail as big as a kite"
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy: "Do you hear what I hear? Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy Do you hear what I hear? A song, a song, high above the trees With a voice as big as the sea With a voice as big as the sea"
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king: "Do you know what I know? In your palace warm, mighty king Do you know what I know? A Child, a Child shivers in the cold Let us bring Him silver and gold Let us bring Him silver and gold"
Said the king to the people everywhere: "Listen to what I say! Pray for peace, people everywhere! Listen to what I say! The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night He will bring us goodness and light He will bring us goodness and light"
Nice tune. A little Tony Matola or Joe Pass type guitar in there too.

Bennett sounded great. Sting, so much. I'd give it a 7 of 10.
DeleteAll right. I like it better than that, but what I'd REALLY like to know is this:
DeleteCan YOU guess why I chose to feature Boulevard of Broken Dreams just after the Mueller Hearings?
There's (almost) ALWAYS a METHOD in my Madness.

Franco, that has to be one of the most noble, inspiring and uplifting music and lyrics that I know.
