I see. I understand what you mean, although REAL virtue, –– as opposed to AFFECTATIONS of virtue for show and ultimate self-aggrandizement ––, are two different animals, as I'm sure you understand.
DeleteI don't believe that there could ever be too much of TRUE virtue. It is The Pearl of Great Price in human affairs.
A paradox emerges with the understanding that in order to become TRULY virtuous, one must first act as if one already were truly virtuous.
You could call that "affectation" if you like, but when pursued earnestly in an honest quest to improves one's character, and be a better person the "act" becomes a vitally useful tool in attaining the Real Thing.
Or so Experience has taught ME. What it may have taught others is anybody's guess. I learned long ago that I can only speak for myself.
No, virtues "oppose" one another. Temperance "opposes" Courage. Wisdom "opposes" Justice. Once you have too much of a virtue, it becomes a "vice" ie - Courage become Brashness. Temperance becomes "Inaction".
